I know all clubs always have a lot of events to consider participating in. This event is a little different as it has two goals. The first is to raise funds towards polio eradication. The second is to be part of breaking a Guinness World Record! Its also different because it is being held at 1am on Sunday 26th February.
Rotary Global Swimarathon
This event is HUGE click http://g.co/maps/eur46 to see how huge. Once you’ve opened the map you can move around the world to see all the map pins. There are two events being held in Wellington, one in Hutt City at Huia Pool and the other in Wellington City at Freyberg Pool.
Purpose: Raise funds to eradicate polio, in addition the event is attempting to break a Guinness World Record by having as many people as possible swim 100m (4 lengths of Huia pool) in the one hour for us in NZ that hour is 1am Sunday 26th February.
To contribute ‘numbers’ towards breaking the record we must have at least 25 swimmers…..so tell anyone and everyone what we’re doing and get them to come along. Our website has been updated and you can send anyone interested in swimming to: www.huttvalleyrotary.org.nz/swimarathon where they can pre-register (which will help us get an idea of how many people are coming
Swimmers will be asked to pay $5 to enter the event and ALL funds will go towards the Polio Plus fund.
Date: Saturday night 25th February into Sunday morning 26th February
Time: midnight until 2pm
Place: meet at the Stratton’s house (at about 9:30pm 25th February) then over to Huia Pool
Role – first part: assist with registering participants as they arrive from 12:10am until 12:45
Role – second part: be a lane adjudicator to check off swimmers completing each of the four lengths
Other bits required:
Cameras the more the merrier!
My goal for the night is to have FUN! Hope you can join us; please contact me with any questions. Keep an eye out in the Hutt News for the promotional stuff. If you can help fantastic, if you’re keen on swimming 100m bring your togs too!
